Fans protest, saying that thanks to the videos uploaded on YouTube of their favorite Korean shows and artists, the Hallyu Wave has been able to spread to the masses, reaching the incredible popularity it has today. Meanwhile, the broadcasting companies say that by uploading their content, the YouTube users are violating their company’s copyrights.
After forming a partnership with YouTube last year to delete videos with content related to SBS, the network has finally taken a step forward creating their very own official YouTube channels.
Last month, SBS opened four channels: SBS Entertainment, SBS Drama, SBS Culture and SBS ISU. This month they opened another four new channels for shows like "Inkigayo","Strong Heart", "Star King", "Night After Night" and a "Good Sunday" channel with episodes of "Running Man" and "Heroes."
Even though it hasn’t been long since the channels were opened, some of them have thousands of videos uploaded already. Some channels feature previews or popular clips of the shows, and others full episodes divided in five minute cuts.
Although this is definitely a step forward for SBS, it seems there are some countries that don’t have access to the videos. Hopefully in the future there will be fewer restraints.
