K-Pop groups DBSK, Kara and 2NE1 are in contention for honors in the upcoming 53rd Japan Record Awards.
DBSK’s “Keep Your Head Down” and Kara’s “Go Go Summer” are both competing for the grand prize. 2NE1, meanwhile, is competing for the best newcomer award. The three groups are up against Japanese artists in their respective categories.
DBSK’s “Keep Your Head Down” has achieved platinum status. Their new Japanese single “Winter” is set for release on November 30.
Kara’s “Go Go Summer” is certified gold. Their studio album “Super Girls” will be available for physical sales on November 23, but had previously topped iTunes Japan on downloads.
2NE1 debuted in Japan with the release of their mini-album in September. “Go Away,” their current single has reached the top 10 on Japan’s Oricon chart.
The Japan Record Awards is an annual event under the auspices of the Japan Composers’ Association in recognition of achievements in the music market. The awards show is set to air on TBS on December 30.
