This past weekend in Tokyo, Japan, the 26th Japanese Golden Disc Awards were held.
2PM was one of those nominated for the “New Artist of the Year” award. The award looked for the most significant rookie group who showed much potential during the past year in all of Asia.
2PM’s Junho recently revealed his goals for 2012 through a Japanese magazine saying, “I want everyone in Japan to know 2PM. We will do our best and work hard even in our solo activities as well.” Looks like you’ve taken your first step in achieving your goal Junho.
2PM was also chosen as one of the “Best Three New Artists.” 2PM along with Beast and Jang Geun Sukwon the award.
In selecting the winner, the Japan Golden Disc Awards observes the sales figures of the chosen groups throughout the past year, from November 1, 2010 to October 31, 2011.
During the past year, 2PM has seen much success in Japan. Their debut single upon release was a popular album. Each of their releases ended up making it on to the Japanese Oricon Daily Singles Chart, ranking in the top five. Last December the group held their first Japanese Arena tour. In total the eight date tour attracted 10 million people.
With the end of 2011, 2PM will still be making their presence known over in Japan. The group has announced that they will be releasing a “Best of” album, which is a compilation of all their previous Korean hits from 2008-2011, on March 14. In April, 2PM is scheduled to be starring in a “Korean Class” segment on NHK TV. Who wouldn’t want 2PM to teach them how to speak Korean?
A JYP Entertainment spokesperson had this to say regarding 2PM, “They had fully invested themselves into Japan after the years end in 2010, working harder than anyone else. 2PM’s fans have been rooting and supporting them all the way and for that we give them huge thanks.”
