Trial date set for J.Y. Park and Kim Shinil’s plagiarism case

Producer J.Y. Park (40) will be heading to court for accusations of plagiarizing a song written by composer Kim Shinil (40).
Seoul’s Central District Court announced on the 19th that a final trial will be held on February 8th to resolve matters between J.Y. Park and Kim Shinil.
Kim Shinil has accused Park of plagiarizing his song, Ash‘s “To My Man” from 2005, and also wrote “Someday” which serves as a track on the OST to the hit series ‘Dream High‘.
Kim filed a civil lawsuit against Park, suing him for nearly $97,000 last July, however none of the plagiarism matters have yet to be resolved.
Both parties have adjusted the court date on three different occasions but the trial has not shown any progression. J.Y. Park denies the charges completely, while Kim is requesting that the song be dually registered under his name as well.
J.Y. Park’s representatives previously made an official comment stating, “The four lines in the chorus accused of plagiarism by Kim Shinil is actually more similar to Kirk Franklin‘s song “Hosanna” that was released in 2002.”
