The Dream Concert Will Not be Held in China

False news about the Dream Concert is confusing fans in China.

A rep from the Korea Entertainment Producer’s Association (KEPA), host of the Dream Concert, told enews on February 16, “It is not true that the Dream Concert will be held in China. We’ve checked with the agencies of the singers on the list posted on the Chinese ticket site, and confirmed that their appearances are also false.”

The rep continued, “We became concerned that many overseas fans of Dream Concert and Korea may be harmed by his false information posted on the Chinese site, so we are launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it.”

According to the data provided by KEPA, a Chinese ticket venue, piao88.com, listed a concert titled 2012 Dream Concertfor May 1, 2012 along with the poster for the 2009 Dream Concert designed by KEPA.

The site introduced the Dream Concert as the biggest concert in Korea, and stated that it would be held overseas for the first time on May 1, 2012 at China’s Beijing Workers’ Sports Complex. The list of singers it says will appear in the concert are Super Junior, 2PM, SHINee, Wonder Girls, Big Bang, Son Dambi, CN Blue, TVXQ, Secret, f(x), IU, T-ara, 2NE1, 4Minute, U-Kiss, ZE:A, After School and Brown Eyed Girls, and even posts a specific ticket price of 299-1699 RMB (Approx. 47-270 USD, 50,000-300,000 won).

The rep from KEPA continued, “The site doesn’t let anyone make a purchase even when they click on the ticket purchase button yet, but many fans have come to believe that the Dream Concert will be held in China this year. As this may harm fans financially and psychologically, and may harm the reputation of the Dream Concert and K-Pop, we will go through with a thorough investigation and take the proper measures.”

President Kim Young Jin of KEPA emphasized, “During the recent years, there have been many offers to co-host theDream Concert overseas, but the Association has never confirmed or specified on the offers. Also, it doesn’t make sense that we would have decided on the date, place and list of singers for the Dream Concert in China when we’re still trying to confirm the venue for the 18th Dream Concert, which is [tentatively] scheduled to be held on May 12 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.”

The Dream Concert will be holding its 18th concert this year, and is hosted by KEPA to promote the healthy culture of the citizens of Korea and the vitalization of popular music. Hyundai Oil Bank and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism are sponsors, and the concert has grown as a power brand that represents K-Pop and the Korean wave with its cast of prominent singers.
