Production Company for Movie ‘The Classic’ Files Motion Against ‘Love Rain’ for Copyright Infringement

The production company behind the 2003 melodrama movie The Classic filed an injunction against the production company of Love Rain on copyright infringement to the Seoul Central District Court on June 6. In it, the motion sought to ban the future broadcast of the drama and any subsequent production and sales of the drama and its related products.

A representative for the law firm representing Egg Film said, “We believe the copyright of The Classic has been severely infringed and the plot, development process of events, characters and their relations in the drama Love Rain are too similar and key characters, scenes and episodes have been used without permission.”

The representative added, “We submitted a request asking the drama’s production and its broadcasting station to cease the copyright infringement on May 16 but as a common ground could not be found, we filed an injunction to the Seoul Central District Court.”

Some of the key plots in question include the male protagonist having to give up his love for his friend, the unveiling of the male and female lead’s past and their children taking up and completing the love their parents couldn’t achieve.

In addition, the representative cited similarities in key scenes between the drama and movie.

The Classic was released in 2003 and starred Son Ye Jin, Jo Seung Woo and Zo In Sung and alternated between a storyline set in the sixties between Jo Seung Woo and Son Ye Jin, and present-day between Zo In Sung and Son Ye Jin again, who played dual roles as the mother and daughter.

A source for Yoons Color said it will release its official stance in the coming days.
