It’s been eight months since Kang Ho Dong left Kneedrop Guru, and a month since Kim Gura appeared in his last Radio Star episode.Their absences, however, are still keenly felt.
MBC’s Radio Star has been showing how muchGolden Fishery, the name of the program that held both Kneedrop Guru and Radio Star, misses the two MCs. Sometimes it’s the props and sometimes it’s the guests, but no matter what method it uses, it manages to show its attachment to its departed.

On the June 13 broadcast of Radio Star, SISTAR’s Hyorin, who appeared as a guest, delivered her own video message to Kim Gura. She chose Kim Gura as her favorite MC in Radio Star, and when the MCs told her to send Kim Gura a message, she said to laughs from her audience, “I thought I would get to see [Kim] Gura oppa when I came on Radio Star, but it’s just me and those other oppas here.”
She then showed her support for the comedian, saying, “How are you doing? I hope to see you soon. Take care of yourself and let’s meet up sometime. You can do it.”
Hyolyn’s words spoke for Kim Gura’s colleagues who had suggested she deliver the message, and also the producers of the show who aired it. The Radio Star producers had also previously made issues for using a figurine resembling Kim Gura to fill his empty seat.
Kang Ho Dong, who wrapped up Kneedrop Guru with his tentative retirement in September 2011, is also one of the much missed.
Because he had been with Golden Fishery since it started up in 2006, the show’s attachment to the man is all the more special.
Talk about Kang Ho Dong made it into the May 30 broadcast of Radio Star, which featured professor Lee Man Ki, formerssireum (Korean wrestling) player. Yoo Se Yoon, current MC of Radio Star, had to ask after his former guru.
Yoo Se Yoon said, “This could be a personal question, but is our guru doing all right?”
Lee Man Ki answered, “He was doing fine. I’ve spoken with him a lot, and like the earth hardens after the rain I could see he had matured. I could see that the fruit of his pain had changed him.”
Kang Ho Dong upheld his friendship with Lee Man Ki when Lee Man Ki lost his mother in April.
When Yoo Se Yoon asked half-jokingly, “Does he still eat well?” Lee Man Ki said, “Kang Ho Dong came to my mother’s funeral and he had three servings of everything that was out there.”
Yoon Jong Shin, who also boasts close ties with the comedian, couldn’t be left out. He shared, “Once, I had over 10 servings of meat with Kang Ho Dong. I eat a lot too, but Kang Ho Dong had naengmyeon (cold noodles) for dessert and then yukhoe(raw meat) mixed with rice.” The story settled in the midst of a group that missed the man very much.
I Just Keep Missing You. This is a song Kang Ho Dong once wanted to play on another variety show. This song seems to speak for the crew of Golden Fishery even now.
