Honest, Real Men are On The Rise in Dramas

Drama characters used to be completely imaginary. They shined bright from head to toe, and set themselves separate from reality with kind and gentle manners, perfect looks and killer charisma.

Now, however, they’re in for a big change. They′ve become rougher, colder and sometimes even more evil, creeping closer to the people you can find in reality.

Their looks are still good-looking, whether they′re handsome men or beautiful women, but the way they carry themselves and their tone of speech all make you feel as if you’ve met them somewhere in your life before.

The flower man Kim Do Jin (Jang Dong Gun) of SBS’ A Gentleman’s Dignity is over 40 years old and is the icon of honesty. He especially doesn’t hide anything in the face of his love.

Male characters used to time their confessions carefully in case it would weigh as a burden on their crush, but the Kim Do Jin of today just went for it immediately.

He also added that he hated loving just one person, saying that he has a crush on someone but that doesn’t mean he can’t sleep with other women.

He’s also a bit too honest in his work. When one of his staff members is hurt by a cup thrown by a client, he chases after the client and does the same thing. Although the client is the contractor and he is the contracted, he acts as if he was the contractor. He doesn’t think of what will follow, and does what he wants to do, even ripping the contract into little pieces in the process.

Because his soul was swapped with that of a pure high school student, Gong Yoo of KBS2’s Big has also become more outspoken after his soul was swapped. He′s set to wed his fiancĂ©e Gil Da Ran (Lee Min Jung), but he still feels awkward around her and his ambiguous relationship with Lee Se Young (Jang Hee Jin) needs to be taken care of.

Nothing about the relationship between Seo Yoon Jae and Lee Se Young has been revealed yet, but what is certain is that Kang Kyung Joon’s soul treats Se Young completely different from how Yoon Jae would’ve treated her.

He tells her to “go home,” and draws a line between him and Se Young by saying, “The person I like is Gil Da Ran.”

Viewers have been showing reactions such as, ‘Are honest men the trend now?’, ‘Jang Dong Gun is so honest in his confessions’ and ‘No more hesitating Seo Yoon Jae! Kang Kyung Joon is the best.’
