Baek Ji Young speaks out about her reasons for leaving ‘I Am a Singer’

Singer Baek Ji Young revealed the real reason why she left MBC‘s ‘I Am a Singer‘.
On the episode of ‘Lee Misook’s Bad Scene‘ that aired on the 27th, Baek Ji Young shared a behind-the-scenes story regarding ‘I Am a Singer’.
As soon as the legendary Kim Gunmo left the show and PD Kim Young Hee was cut, the show was re-organized but Baek Ji Young volunteered to leave the show.
I’ve done okay for myself as a singer thus far, some of my songs securing #1 wins on K-Charts, but I felt like I was singing songs that were so uncharacteristic of Baek Jiyoung. I was embarrassed,” she said.
I became desperate when I began singing “Unpredictable” on the show. My song “Like Being Hit By a Bullet” was #5 on the charts. I felt relieved, and I was grateful, but at the same time I was really embarrassed,” she continued.
Another reason I left was because Kim Young Hee was no longer the PD. I agreed to do the show because I knew it was a program that PD Kim was going to be creating, and I didn’t like the fact that he was cut. He made news and recruited so many artists to be on the program, but was cut in an instant. I couldn’t believe it, and I decided to leave,” she continued. PD Shin Jungsoo was cast in place to replace Kim Young Hee.
She concluded, “But I do think that it was a good experience, because the results were reflective of my own efforts. However, I was stressed and panicked, and that fear makes me not want to return.”
