Big Bang's Japan tour faces opposition from fans

Big Bang’s upcoming Japan tour is facing strong opposition from their fans.

According to the original plan, a total of 7 concerts will be held. However, with the recent earthquake and its aftermath, Japan is facing their worst emergency situation in years.
Even though the Japanese government has spared all of their efforts in dealing with the critical situation, the nuclear radiation threat from Fukushima is still hard to be contained.

Many Korean artists have set back their Japan schedules due to the disaster, however, Big Bang will be holding their tour as originally planned causing fans to express their concerns. YG Entertainment said the tour will be held in the safe regions instead of the dangerous ones. However, fans said that at this point in time, there is no difference whether the concerts were held in safe or dangerous regions.

Fans explained, “Since there is a danger like this, we should put the safety of the singer on the top of the list.”

“Since the Japanese are facing such kind of tragic incidents at the moment, I wonder whether they would still be interested in appreciating the concerts. How do you distinguish the dangerous and safe regions in Japan?”

“It is the duty of the entertainment company to discuss with Universal Japan to decide whether to cancel or postpone the tour. Other celebrities have also canceled their concerts there, so what is the point of insisting Big Bang’s?”

The decision to continue the tour despite recent events has aroused a lot of criticism from the fans. YG Entertainment has taken into consideration whether to postpone Big Bang’s Japan tour date, and responded to the fans’ concern over the tour. Since the situation in Japan is still not stable, the schedule is still not confirmed, although YG Entertainment have been in contact with the entertainment company in Japan.

Like other Korean singers who have advanced into the Japanese market, the final decision whether YG will still carry out the same schedule depends on their contract with the company in Japan since it is the Japanese company who has the authority to cancel a schedule.

In fact, this problem is not only faced by YG Entertainment and Big Bang; other groups like SNSD and 2PM have also planned to do their activities in Japan. YG Entertainment stated that Big Bang would rather proceed with their tour and donate some of their earnings to the hundreds of thousands of victims in the affected areas in Japan. The Japanese VIPs also planned to help out as well.

YG Entertainment says, “We completely understand how you are concerned with the safety of Big Bang in Japan. Whether Big Bang can process their concerts safely depends on the places they perform, and we will make a decision based on how the Japanese feel and after understanding the situation thoroughly. Your concerns are justified since amidst such an unexpected disaster, the safety of Big Bang should be put into careful consideration. Although there are still a lot of variables in the Japan situation and in the Japan tour of Big Bang, I really wish to express my sorrow to the fans who have been hurt in the disaster. Through this concert, we will keep on consulting with the Japanese side to see how we can help to contribute to the relief work.”
