While MBC′s We Got Married will be returning to its post, MBC has released a report it received on viewer opinions concerning Infinity Challenge.MBC officially announced on June 15 through a newsflash titled ′Most programs back on track, viewer complaints diminish′ that stated "Many viewers wanted a new program to be produced rather than have Infinity Challenge air special reruns [as it does now]."
MBC said, "The number of complaints received due to problems in broadcast resulting from the strike have diminished. For the two months February and March, a total of 12,000 complaints (approximately 6,000 per month) were received, but in May only 1,500, or one-fourth of the previous numbers, were turned in. Most of them were complaints about the shortened news times and the missed episodes of various programs such as Infinity Challenge. The May complaints were mostly about the long term absence of Infinity Challenge and We Got Married and demands to resume production."
The company added, "Especially in the case of Infinity Challenge, a lot of the complaints wanted a new program to be produced in its place rather than have it air special reruns. These results have been compiled through phone operator calls, which go through two shifts from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and opinion posts on the viewer boards."
MBC also tried to put pressure on the Infinity Challenge producers by saying that in the viewership committee meetings held every month, some pointed out that "the biggest reason for the strike was the news, but it′s hard to understand why variety programs are missing episodes."
The MBC newsflash baffled many because it didn′t contain anything about the viewers that said they wanted Infinity Challenge to go back on air.
Most netizens are currently supportive of Infinity Challenge and its producer Kim Tae Ho′s strike. These opinions especially boiled over when outsourcing and discontinuation rumors spread regarding the show.
MBC′s report shows that if and when Infinity Challenge is replaced by another program, the company will avoid taking responsibility for the discontinuation by saying that it was the result of viewer opinion.
MBC is currently being criticized for using Infinity Challenge as leverage to appease public opinion, releasing news about the issuance of ID cards for the show′s cast, outsourcing and discontinuation rumors and the most recent newsflash.
Infinity Challenge is currently in its 20th week of halted production.
