When a speaker stated that there is a need to consider taking up the manager licensing policy, Pyo Jong Rok argued, “I believe the manager listing policy that’s been gaining support recently will have more ill effects than good.”
He added, “There are, however, still some instances where the management companies use violence on their celebrities or violate their privacy. If the managers have engaged in serious illegal deeds, there is a need to ban or suspend them from working as managers and also block such people from being hired.”
The day’s hearing took place with two parts, the first being about improvements that could be made to the standard exclusive contract for pop culture artists and the second about the revision in standard contracts regarding their media appearances.
The event was hosted by professor Son Mu Hyun of Hanyang University’s applied music department, and was attended by YG Entertainment CEO Choi Sung Jun, JYP Entertainment CFO Pyo Jong Rok, Vice-President Hong Jong Gu of the Corea Entertainment Management Association, CEO Hwang Dong Sub of the Korea Entertainment Producers’ Association, the head of Samhwa Networks Ahn Je Hyun, Director Gu Bon Geun of the SBS Drama Center, producers, performers, associations, academia and broadcasting officials.
